Fall Day at Happy Critters Farm
We had such fun hosting a farm tour in August that we are offering another day for homeschooling families - this time a fall event - at Happy Critters Farm. We are open to ideas, but are thinking of looking at animals, tractors, walking in the woods (we have a lot!!), maybe a hay ride?, maybe a campfire? (depends on the wind conditions).
Dress for the weather. (It is always a bit windy here)
Bring something to roast. If it's too windy for a campfire, we can use our grill.
Dress for Adventure Walking.
If you have any games or activities that you would like to bring, that would be wonderful. Feel free to chat with me (Amanda Lambert) or my sister (Maria Antonescu) if you have ideas.
Basically, we're opening the farm and woods for you to enjoy with your kids.
For information on our farm, you can check out our Facebook page (www.facebook.com/ happycrittersfarm) and our website (www.happycrittersfarms.com).

"Speak Truth in Your Heart" Conference
We are excited to announce a “Speak Truth in Your Heart” Bright Lights conference in Wisconsin this November.
Taught by Sarah Mally, this conference will challenge girls to identify lies which are the root issues behind struggles they face and to be well grounded in the Word of God. Many girls try to change their wrong actions, but never learn to discern the wrong thinking behind the actions. As girls replace lies of the culture with biblical truth, they will see how God’s Word will transform each area of their lives as the truth sets them free! Sarah will include many stories, illustrations and practical tips as she discusses topics such as a girl’s emotions, purity, who God is, and a proper view of who we are in light of the truth of Scripture. When a young lady learns to “speak truth” to herself, she is building her life upon an unshakable foundation that will resist even the most powerful attacks of the enemy.
Session Titles:

Homeschool Literature Class (Grades 9-12)
Homeschool High School Literature Class
Suggested for Grades 9-12Fall/Winter 2018-2019
Enjoying literature is easier and more fun to do in a group than in individual study. This class will learn how to dig deeper into an array of different genres including, but not limited to -- fiction, non/fiction, biography, fantasy/science fiction, poetry and modern literature. The goal for this class is threefold. First, we will be learning how to analyze literature. Second, we will be honing our writing and discussion skills to learn how to best express our thoughts. Third, we will work on organizational skills to help us fulfill expectations.
We will be using the Lost Tools of Writing curriculum to guide us in writing eight analytical essays based on the eight units of literature we study. We also will be working through poetry memorization and recitation, group work and Socratic Circles. As always, I like to fold in some dramatic performances, so we will try to take a trip to a theater for a field trip or two.
This class will meet weekly for 24 weeks and will meet the time requirements for 1 high school credit.
The cost for the class is $100/semester. Contact Sara Floerke if you have questions (sarafloerke@gmail.com or 218-340-5302)
Homeschool Writing Class (Grades 6-8)
Homeschool Middle School Writing Class
Suggested for Grades 6-8Fall/Winter 2018-19
Using the Institute for Excellence in Writing materials, we will be going through nine units to move students from finding main ideas to crafting research papers and critiques by the end of the 24 weeks. The goal for this course is to prepare students for organized, academic writing and introduce them to literary analysis. We will spend 15 minutes a week on grammar, and creative writing will be a minor piece of the agenda. This class is designed for early writers. This year our focus will be more literary as we read several books from the Chronicles of Narnia Series. Our writing projects will focus on an analysis of C.S. Lewis’ foremost work while also looking at additional works which influenced Lewis’ writing.
We will be meeting on Tuesday afternoons at 1pm in the Gold Room at the Main Library. First semester will run for 12 weeks beginning on September 18 and finishing the first week of December. Second Semester will begin at the end of January. The entire course will run a total of 24 weeks.
This is a course which has seen strong academic results for students. The cost for the class is $100/semester plus a one time cost of $29 for a workbook.
Please visit https://iew.com/shop/products/following-narnia-volume-1-lions-song-student-book-only to order your book. Classes start on September 18, 2018, so contact Sara Floerke to register or ask questions.
