Local Class Opportunities
If you are looking for an educational class (either one time or ongoing) to sign-up your child or teen for, you are in the right spot! Below is a list of different classes available in the Northland for homeschoolers. Do you know of or lead a class that may interest families who homeschool? Audubon Center of the North Woods
ACNW offers two homeschool weeks (one in November and one in January) specializing in overnight learning experiences. They have 2-3 day environmental learning experiences for in-depth and hands-on learning in an outdoor setting. Class options are focused on wildlife, ecology, adventure, natural history, etc. This would be a great opportunity for several families to coordinate - there is a student minimum of 24 and at least 1 parent must stay as well (with their goal to network, share ideas, etc).

Duluth Art Institute
Rotating art exhibits as well as artist services (i.e. ceramics center, dark room). They also have classes offered for kids and adults alike in fiber arts, painting, ceramics and more for various prices (members get a discount!).

Duluth Folk School
Offers a variety of different classes at different times. Examples include: beading, useful knot tying, newspaper weaving, boreal botanicals and more.

Gym and Swim at the Superior YMCA
Burn some energy at gym and swim! It is unstructured open gym for the whole family and there is also a 0 depth entry indoor pool. You do not need to be a YMCA member to participate! Children under the age of 7 must be accompanied by an adult and the adult must be in the water with their child. Pay by the day or sign up for the whole session and save!
Cost per Family for 7 Week Session: Member = FREE, General Public = $40

Times: Gym from 2-2:30 p.m., Swim from 2:30-3:30 p.m.
Gym and Swim at the Duluth YMCA
They are offering structured gym time and pool time with a new skill taught weekly for students. Classes are grouped into 7 week sessions and registration is opened one week prior to each session. These are drop-off classes.
Cost: $58 members, $90 non-members
Where: Duluth YMCA (302 W 1st Street, Duluth)
Frequency: Tuesdays in 7 week sessions
Times: 1:30 - 4:30 p.m.
Kids Build-It Workshops

Lake Superior Zoo
This zoo offers year-round educational programs designed to "connect people with animals and the natural world." Some programs are for kids to be dropped off and some are more suited for families all together. They have animal exhibits open year round, and there are field trips and camps. In addition they have educator kits available on their website for before and after visiting.

Northern Expressions Arts Collective
Hosts many various community events but also holds art / craft classes.

Proctor and Hermantown Community Education
Offer a variety of things - sports, Driver's Ed, martial arts, basketball camp and more.

Sew Duluth
Sew Duluth is a unique sewing studio that offers sewing lessons and classes for kids aged 8 and up! Learning to sew is “SEW” much more than replacing a button. Our mini-makers will be building their self esteem, hand-eye coordination, spatial skills, concentration, patience, growth mindset, reading skills, basic math skills, and most importantly letting their sparkle and creativity shine!
Sewing sessions run weekly for 6 weeks. Each class is an hour and a half and the total cost is $150. We supply machines and all sewing implements, you supply the creativity and positive energy.

Spirit Mountain Homeschool Friday Snowboard & Skiing Lessons
Offers four weeks of progressive lessons in either skiing or snowboarding. You can select what level your child is already when registering. They also have the same thing for parents so they can participate too.

Spirit of the Lake Community School Homeschool Classes
This is for grades 1-6 and is hands-on learning led by Waldorf-trained instructors. There are several skill-building classes in handiwork, latin, music, and sculpture. You are welcome to stay for to play during recess.

Offers classes for babies ages 6 - 18 months or children ages 18 months to 8 years, supporting all learners where they are. Takes place at park(s) in the local area.
